My experience with blogs is limited to Prof Highberg's class. I have never sought blogs or had a desire to write one. Initially this was because I had a negative impression of blogs; the notoriety of Live Journal lunacy is wide-spread. My opinion became more positive when I learned that the scope of blogging extends beyond attention grabbing; political, corporate, and scientific blogs are all legitimate sources of information, though it greatly depends on the author and purpose.

In terms of research, blogs are useful because it is a single perspective. Periodicals, wikis, reports, etc often lack opinion (or at least they are supposed to) and they may also be collaborative efforts. These texts are the tried and true sources for research, but I could also see the usefulness in gathering the honest and independent opinion of a diverse group of people.

Though my opinion of blogs sways between neutral and optimistic, I still do not read them. We all develop "e-habits"; when I want to purchase electronics I head to Amazon, when I want to check on the game I head over to espn.com, and when I am doing research I look for a primer on wikipedia and then head over to Lexus Nexus. Blogs were never integrated into my routine and I'm a stubborn creature of habit. Maybe one day.
